Should I Buy Human Hair or Synthetic Hair?
Buying a wig brings many things to consider – cut, color, size, length. Each one makes a huge difference.
The biggest thing to consider though is the material: do you want human hair, or synthetic (that which is manufactured)? There are pros and cons to each. We’re here to help you make the most informed decision possible.
Human Hair Wigs
Wigs made from human hair are easy to match to your natural texture. You will already know how to style this hair, so you may have an easier time changing your look. Stylists will also have an easier time dyeing or cutting wigs made from human hair. These can last an especially long time if they’re treated properly.
A wig made from human hair will change with the elements. This means it will frizz on humid days, fade in the sun, and get damaged with too much styling. Wigs from human hair need more upkeep than wigs from synthetic hair, and are often more expensive.
Synthetic Hair Wigs
Synthetic wigs hold their appearance very well, and for that they are a dream to style. They will also hold through washings as well as days with poor weather. They are perfect for someone who is sick or doesn’t have the energy (nor ambition) to spend time each day styling their hair. Even though synthetic wigs are fairly inexpensive, they look really natural and most people won’t be able to tell that they are not made of real human hair.
Once you have a synthetic wig, it can be very difficult to change the color or style. They can be easily damaged with traditional styling tools, but even with care they won’t last nearly anywhere as long as a wig made from human hair. Some cheaper synthetic wigs won’t look as real as the more expensive ones, and can have an unnatural shine to them – this is dead giveaway that they are synthetic.
No matter what your budget is, there is a wig out there that will fit your needs. You will first need to decide what’s most important to you: if you want to be able to style and change your hair, then look for a wig made from human hair. If you love the idea of a lasting style, then synthetic may be the way to go.
